LITHOS CARBON   ROCK POWDER BEING SPREAD ON AGRICULTURAL FIELDS, PART OF THE ENHANCED ROCK WEATHERING PROCESS

The LEGO Group is committed to sustainability by donating DKK 19 million to support four carbon removal projects with Climate Impact Partners and ClimeFi.

Timeline

The projects will generate carbon credits from 2024 to 2026 and aim to make a tangible impact in reducing emissions and combating climate change.

Carbon Removal Initiatives

The investment includes a Biochar Initiative, improving rock weathering, and reforestation in the Lower Mississippi Alluvial Valley. Biochar turns waste into stable carbon, while rock powders help speed up natural weathering and boost soil health. These projects aim to increase biodiversity, restore ecosystems, and improve water quality.

KIRKBI

Along with the LEGO Group’s commitment, KIRKBI A/S has pledged an additional DKK 5 million to buy carbon credits from the same projects. This combined effort highlights their joint approach to sustainability and fighting climate change.

Vision for the Future

Annette Stube, Chief Sustainability Officer at the LEGO Group, explained the vision for these projects. She emphasized that innovative carbon removal solutions are crucial for a sustainable future and improving biodiversity. The LEGO Group’s approach shows that tackling climate change needs various strategies, including both technology and nature-based solutions.
