The LEGO Group is launching new tires made from more than one-third recycled materials. By 2025, select sets will feature these tires with at least 30% recycled content.
The company has created rSEBS, a groundbreaking material derived from recycled engine oil, ropes, and nets, to lessen its dependence on new fossil fuels.
LEGO aims to use renewable or recycled materials in all its products by 2032, currently testing over 600 different materials for bricks and elements.
Sustainable materials are being integrated into LEGO products, including bio-PE, recycled artificial marble, and e-methanol. Bio-PE, sourced from Brazilian sugarcane, is utilized in over 200 elements, while arMABS, made from artificial marble, will be used in transparent pieces. The company is also forming partnerships with industry leaders.
By 2024, LEGO plans to have 30% of its resin purchases coming from renewable sources, with a goal of sourcing 22% from these materials, showcasing its dedication to sustainability and the transformation of raw materials.
LEGO is working with suppliers, research institutes, and various industries to promote renewable and recycled materials, striving to accelerate the journey toward a sustainable future for children and generations to come.
