The Old Man and the Sea

This diorama captures a pivotal moment from the novel “The Old Man and the Sea” where the old man is locked in a battle with a marlin. The model effectively conveys themes of human resilience and perseverance, which are central to the story. What I like the most about this diorama is the creative use of parts, such as using wings for the tail, and the simple background featuring the sun and seagulls that bring life to the scene.

Hello. I’m Iyan Ha.

This project is the creation of the novel, “The Old Man And The Sea”, written by Ernest Hemingway.

I worked with Studio 2.0, a designer program.

I used about 1,300 bricks, & 1 minifigure.

“Why are we challenging ourselves?”

“Why do we move forward without being daunted by defeat?”

This novel by Ernest Hemingway tells the story of man’s spirit of challenge who is undaunted by defeat.

My project is also like that.

In the distant seas of Cuba, a giant size of a marlin is caught fishing by an old fisherman, “Santiago.”

The fish was 18 feet (5.5 meters) long and weighed 1,500 pounds (700 kilograms).

The old man continues to follow the marlin’s lead even as he falls and injures himself in the boat.

The old man never gives up the marlin caught in the fishing rod.

On the third day, the old man overpowers the giant marlin that popped up to the surface. And ties it to the side of the boat.

But another difficulty begins.

The marlin’s sniffing sharks chase the old man’s boat.

The old man challenges the fight against the sharks.

Every time sharks rush in, the marlin’s flesh gradually disappears.

But the old man never gives up.

The giant marlin caught when the boat returned to the coast was left with only its bones.

The old man enters the cabin house, falls asleep, and dreams of lions.

The misfortune behind the fight against the giant marlin and sharks does not mean the old man’s defeat.

He was undefeated.

He went beyond his limits and accepted his fight with himself.

He showed how humans should behave.

This novel pioneered the literature of the 20th century.

It also opened new horizons in the world of modern literature.

Hemingway won the Pulitzer Prize and the Nobel Prize in Literature for his 1952 novel “The Old Man and the Sea.”

I made a scene in the novel with Lego.

It is divided into three parts: the old man’s boat / the marlin / and the sea.

And when these are combined, a diorama is completed.

It is a scene in the novel that depicts the old man trying not to lose to the marlin when the sun rises and the marlin jumps to the surface on the third day of the old man’s fight with the marlin.

The image of the old man struggling is contained in it.

It looks as if it’s fighting a giant fate.

The same questions again.

“Why are we challenging ourselves?”

“Why do we move forward without being daunted by defeat?”

The answers to these questions are the same as the old man’s lines in the novel.

“But man is not made for defeat,” he said. “A man can be destroyed but not defeated.”

Lake House

The Lake House is a retreat that includes a boat garage, residential space on the upper floor, and a greenhouse. The rabbit burrow underneath the willow tree completes the scene. I like the simplicity of a one-room residential layout along with the boathouse under the house.

Welcome to Lake House on the serene lake.

It was my dream to design this beautiful Lake House with boat garages.

Old motorboats can be stored in a boat garage connected to the lake.

A residential space is located on the upper floor of garage and a small greenhouse is attached to the side.

Cultivate pretty plants in the greenhouse.

There is a very old and wonderful willow tree next to Lake House.

How about a cup of warm coffee at the picnic table with your little friends in the forest?

It will also be a lot of fun to build Lego while listening to the sounds of nature.

Take a boat out to the lake and enjoy fishing.

The time here will slow down for you for a while.

You can also travel somewhere else in a pickup truck.

Come visit Lake House.

Your relaxed life awaits you.

Thank you very much for your time and I hope you like it 😀

Mediterranean Restaurant

The Mediterranean Restaurant could be a great addition to modular sets or serve as the central point for creating a Spanish village with cobblestone streets. This building sparks a discussion of architectural history as it is based on an old manor house in a Valencian community along the Mediterranean coast of Spain, and the creator provides a fictional backstory about the famous paella dish. It’s a three-story building with a shop, a bedroom, and a radio room on the roof.

History of the model

Today we travel to Spain, specifically to the most rural areas of the Valencian community, to tell a short fictional story about spies and paellas.

Paella is a traditional dish from the East of Spain and famous in many parts of the world. Declared as a Cultural Asset in Spain, it is known that the first documented reference to Valencian rice appears in a recipe manuscript from the beginning of the 18th century. And very important, the main ingredient is rice, the most consumed food on the planet:

“On the outskirts of a small town there is an old manor house, now converted into a restaurant, where its specialty, among other things, is Paella. It is said that it was here where the first ingredients of such a delicious dish were mixed.

Its fame was such that, in our story, a spy was called to know the secrets of the famous dish, but what she didn’t know is that the biggest secret of paella is to enjoy it in company”

The model

This 17th century manor house has been modified to be a restaurant, although it maintains practically all the elements of the period. In some of the arcades we can see over the keystone of the arch, images of recipes printed on old banners.

The building is modular and is divided into three stories where the old carriage entrance on the ground floor has given way to a rural shop and a restaurant.

We go to the first floor and see a large room on two levels where there is space for a bedroom, a warm area for reading or resting and another higher area for access to the balconies. Also, and to give playability in this floor, is hidden a secret envelope with the “ingredients of paella” (pic.12).

Already on the roof and accessed by a folding wooden ladder, we reach the radio room, with a small attic.

The awning can be modified for a shorter one using simple clips and changing the length of the support bars (last image).

It could be a good set due to its cultural contribution and the detail added to facades, windows, roofs and balconies, among other elements. Added to this is the playability of modular buildings, adding a fold-out wall (kitchen) for better access to even the most delicate or/and most furnished areas.

The model contains approximately 3350 pieces with 8 minifigures, including a baby in a stroller or a spy with a camera and headphones, among others.

Thank you very much for your time 🙂

Emergency Kit

This emergency kit is the ultimate survival tool for AFOLs —because you never know when a rogue brick might try to become permanently fused to your foot. It’s got a LEGO separator housed inside, and you can even hang it on the wall like a proud, nerdy trophy—because nothing says “I’m prepared!” quite like having a separator on standby for that impending brick-related crisis.

I hope this one becomes an official LEGO set, because despite the fact that I’ve got at least 20 of these scattered around my house, they seem to play a never-ending game of hide and seek. The kit comes complete with a hammer to break the glass—but before you commit LEGO piece homicide you might want to just gently open the door and remove the tool before returning it for later use.

In case of an emergency, don’t break the glass—just open it! Introducing the LEGO Emergency Kit, a clever and playful display piece built from 245 parts, perfect for any LEGO fan’s collection or as a quirky desk decoration.

Overview

This build is designed to resemble a classic “In Case of Emergency” display box, complete with a transparent, hinged front window that you can open—no need to break anything! Inside, you’ll find a LEGO brick separator tool. Carefully displayed in a secure, yet accessible case. The kit is wrapped with a chain to emphasise that it’s only for “emergencies,” adding a fun and engaging touch to the design. Whether it’s a symbol of preparedness or simply a quirky conversation starter, this model stands out with its sleek design and attention to detail.

Key Features

  • Opening Glass Front: Unlike typical emergency cases, this kit features a hinged glass front that opens easily, allowing you to access the “emergency tool” without breaking anything.
  • Iconic Brick Separator: Behind the glass, you’ll find a LEGO brick separator tool—one of the most essential tools for any builder, perfectly fitting the emergency theme.
  • Functional Aesthetic: The LEGO-built chains and lock elements create a sense of protection, while the bold red and black/yellow design gives the whole piece a distinctive, attention-grabbing look.
  • Compact and Fun: With just 245 pieces, this set offers a perfect balance of intricate design and ease of assembly. It’s an enjoyable project for both seasoned builders and beginners.
  • Versatile Display: The LEGO Emergency Kit can be mounted on the wall or placed on a shelf, making it a versatile addition to any LEGO fan’s space.

Why Support?

The LEGO Emergency Kit is not just a build—it’s a charming piece of LEGO artistry with a humorous twist. It makes for a great conversation piece, a practical reminder of LEGO’s ingenuity, and a fun gift for any fan. Whether you love creative builds, practical LEGO tools, or just want a unique display for your collection, this kit has something for everyone.

As I always like a good proof of concept, I actually built the model in real life! Have a look at the pictures, which include both digital renders and real-life images of the build. If you like the idea, don’t hesitate to support it and share with your friends and family!
