My Favorite Retro LEGO Ideas (November 2024)
My November 2024 favorites include a lifeguard tower, an ET-themed set, Big Mouth Billy Bass, a tin toy robot, and a Sega OutRun.
The Iconic Los Angeles County Lifeguard Tower
This idea made the list because the famous lifeguard towers in LA have appeared in popular TV shows like Baywatch from the 90s, making them a well-recognized symbol of America. These towers have been along the California coast since the 1950s and are still used. If you haven’t visited the California coast, you can check out Dave’s Travel Corner for pictures of the beach pier and the iconic lifeguard towers.
E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial
As of writing this, there has only been one LEGO set released, which included an E.T. minifigure and a phone. It’s about time that we get a bigger set for E.T. This new set could include E.T., the house, and the aliens. The only thing to add is a closet filled with stuffed animals!
Big Mouth Billy Bass
I remember when those singing fish toys first came out during my childhood. They were a new gadget that you could hang on your wall. Some people loved them, while others couldn’t stand them. It feels like these were released ages ago, though that could just be a sign of getting older. The person behind this idea mentioned that they became popular in the early 2000s. If you enjoyed the original and want a fish that hangs on your wall singing “Take Me to the River,” this LEGO version is just as cool.
Kinetic Tin Toy
Remember the iconic toy train robots from the 1950s? They were popular among children and a staple of the era. The tin toy robots had numerous moving parts, including gears, belts, and pistons. If you’re nostalgic for those classic robots, this idea brings one to LEGO form.
Sega Outrun
This idea is a replica of the classic 1986 arcade game OutRun. The track has familiar sights from the original game, like palm trees, beaches, and beautiful roads. It also includes the turbo button that first appeared in Turbo OutRun, which came out in 1989, three years after the original. The Turbo version introduced new tracks and the turbo button for a speed boost.
